Summary: Campaign to stop a government-led road proposal destroying Rimrose Valley Country Park

Funder(s): LUSH, Patagonia, Foundation for Integrated Transport & public donations

Details: Shortly after becoming a registered charity in 2017, it was announced that a road was to be built through Rimrose Valley. One of our charity’s core objectives is to protect the space, which led to us forming a campaign to fight the road proposal. Over the course of the following 7 years, we took on the government and engaged the community in our efforts – raising awareness of the issues associated with the development. We organised protests and publicity stunts and contacted local, regional and national politicians. Our work led to us learning about sustainable transport, air quality, biodiversity, the climate emergency and much, much more. Our efforts resulted in years of delay and huge public and political opposition to the scheme. On Wednesday 30th October 2024, it was announced that the road project was to be cancelled.

We’re just one of a handful of campaigns ever to have stopped a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and it was only possible due to the HUGE support we had from our community.

Some of our protests and demonstrations attracted enormous turnouts and took months of planning. You’ll see some of the best included as projects in their own right.
